What you will study in English Literature
Literature studies reward close reading, textual evidence and well-supported interpretation. Separate what the text says from the claims an argument builds around it.
Core subject areas
- Poetry, drama, novels and literary history
- Narrative technique, genre and critical theory
- Close reading and evidence-based essay structure
- Citation practice and comparative analysis
Practical learning exercises
Practice works best when you first understand the relevant concepts, attempt your own response and then check your reasoning. Here are two examples of learning activities rather than completed assessment responses:
- Develop two competing readings of a short public-domain passage.
- Explain how form and imagery support an argument.
Find the right course and semester syllabus
Different institutions may use the same subject name for very different units. Before starting an assignment, identify your country, institution, degree, academic intake, semester or stage, module code and published learning outcomes. A current assessment brief takes priority over generic notes or an old sample paper. Compare your learning plan against our university directory, academic-session resources and study guides.
How we can support your learning
Subject guidance can include explaining models, discussing concepts, helping you interpret a rubric, reviewing a draft you wrote, or preparing practice questions for an independent project. We do not impersonate students or complete assessed submissions on their behalf. Use one-to-one tutoring to discuss difficult topics or send your course requirement for an appropriate study-support plan.
